Blood Orange Forget It
Blood Orange announces new single, except it’s not new. Wtf bro..
Blood Orange’s first release Coastal Grooves has become one of my favorite records of 2011, and due mostly to his live show. As the opening act on Chris Taylor’s “CANT Dreams Come True” 2011 tour, I became a believer in Dev Hayes. Having helped produce albums for everyone from Basement Jaxx, and Theophilus London, to Solange Knowles, Cassie, and Diana Vickers, it’s no surprise Dev Hayes finally stepped out of the studio and into the spotlight, bringing to life a 90’s inspired, pop fantasy lurking in the darkness of the night.
There is this Prince (The Artist Formally Known As) aesthetic to both artists’ recordings and live performances. It’s not a cockiness, but a confidence without hesitation, that in fact, there is no choice in the matter, writing, signing and performing, is the only choice they have. It’s pretty incredible to watch, and makes listening to his music that much better. Needless to say, I can’t wait to catch another Blood Orange show, and of course, hear some new tunes.
Blood Orange just announced “Forget It” will be will be released as his next single on March 12th. I don’t know what that means considering this song already came out, but regardless, it’s a fave. To promote this single, (and hopefully more new tunes) Hayes has been invited to perform as special guest to Florence & The Machine on her upcoming US and Australian tours in April and May.
