Shortcircles Time Time Time + Shortcircles EP Stream

As a fan for some time now of Oakland, CA’s Shortcircles, you can imagine my delight when Matt Tammariello dropped this smoothed out, RnB laced six track stunner in my inbox. This is the first EP from Shortcircles, who in 2011 dropped all kinds of noteworthy ambient singles full of silly samples eliciting this throw back 90s hip hop feel. All of this of course came to fruition on my first listen through of the EP, as I was quickly reminded of Nas and the Pharcyde. This EP flows from track to track, and you can actually feel the cohesive thought put into how it would sound as a whole. Matt also includes a lot more vocals than on previous jamz, which adds a refreshing pop aspect to tunes like “Time Time Time” and “Counting The Lights.”

For a kid who has been nawing on my own flesh and bones in anticipation of more old school hip hop influenced beats, this Shortcircles EP has quenched my thirst like that lemon-lime Gatorade did for Michael Jordan back when he was the reppin’ that black and red and on that Breakfast of Champions Wheaties tip.

Read what Shortcircles and his label, Plug Research had to say about him, and stream the entire EP below.

A musician that was never trained as such, every time a composition is created warrants a different approach. Inspired by Four Tet, Teebs, Floating Points and DJ Shadow, as well as a plethora of 50’s jazz records, the Shortcirlces sound is hard to pin-point. The best way he can describe it is as a “peaceful sound. I try to make music that is as honest to myself as possible.”
