THEESatisfaction - QueenS
THEESatisfaction QueenS
The more I listen to THEESatisfaction, the more I feel like I missed out by never being on Soul Train, wearing a sexy one piece bell bottom jumper grooving out to some funk and hustle inspired beats like this one. My obsession with acts like Diana Ross and the Pointer Sisters stems of course from my parents. As a kid I lived in a bubble filled with Choco Tacos from the ice cream truck, endless hours of gymnastics practice, Nickelodeon cartoons and some really great music, lots of that being classic funk and soul music.
Listening to THEESatisfaction takes me right back to that time. Except instead of yearning for more of the throwback nostalgia, these ladies fuse a variety of genres from rap to soul, funk and psychadelic and something in between creating a sound that is breaking down the doors of 2012 like a huge gust of fresh air.
Recently signed to Sub Pop, the label describes the singer/producer/performers as writing, “Funk-psychedelic feminista sci-fi epics with the warmth and depth of Black Jazz and Sunday morning soul, frosted with icy raps that evoke equal parts Elaine Brown, Ursula Rucker and Q-Tip.” I love that. I also get a serious Mos Def vibe in their recordings. So fresh.
Sub Pop drops THEESatisfaction’s debut album Awe Natural on March 27th, 2012.
