Yosemite Water
Well I have said it a number of times already this year, the Australian indie scene is getting all kinds of cray. I’ve written about countless Australian acts that have caught my attention from Oscar + Martin and Albatross to Leaks, and Big Cats. Recently I received an mp3 from Melbourne, Australia duo Yosemite, that has struck a chord with me. I can’t actually pinpoint their sound, all I can say is I have been walking around all week with this infectious, moody jam stuck in my head.
The best way to describe this track is to imagine a computer screen of infinite black, and a huge rattlesnake slowly pulsating through the darkness to the beat, and with every hit of the bass being lit up by a different neon shade. I guess that is my way of saying there is some kind of 90s inspired vibe, tickling the back of my brain. The Bonobo, Four Tet and even Emancipator influences are apparent but I would guess it’s a welcomed comparison.
Only a month old, Yosemite says their background is in playing live instruments, but as of late the guys have become increasingly inspired by organic electronic music. With a debut EP on the horizon, I am writhing with anticipation to hear what the rest of Yosemite’s tunes sound like. Be sure to keep an eye on these two.
