Main Attraktionz Bossalini & Fooliyones pt. 2 (prod. by AHYVE)
One of my top ten tracks of 2010 is Glasser’s “Treasury of We”. Well Main Attrakionz and ardent young producer AHYVE had to go ahead and blow my mind by giving Cameron Mesirow’s track the Bay Area treatment as the introductory anthem to 808’s & Dark Grapes.
I’ve been known to hate on a lot of the new rap that has come out in the past couple of years. Maybe that’s because I refused to admit that hip hop is evolving, maybe it’s because a lot of it just wasn’t that good.
Main Attrakionz though, man, they have struck a chord with me in the best possible way. Main Attrakionz manage to walk a fine line between rap nostaligia with beats and verses reminiscent of early hip hop heroes like The Pharcyde and Hierogylphics, while keeping with the rap evolution by creating their own brand of playful, freshly engineered swagger via incandescent producers like Clams Casino, Friendzone and AHYVE. 808’s and Dark Grapes has made me a believer, don’t sleep on this record. “This ain’t lofi nigga”.

So a week ago I posted the track, “Treasury of We”, by one of my favorite artist’s Glasser. Peep this video of Glasser and her band demystifying the process of creating a live musical experience for songs that were written and recorded by just one person. Pretty radical.

Glasser’s latest album Ring has been on heavy rotation for months. I finally got to see her perform live at Pitchfork’s #Offline Fest at CMJ 2010. If you haven’t picked up her album yet, get on it. Do it. Now.
