MIXTAPE MONDAYS! Kutmah Presents: Worldwide Family Vol. II
London underground favorite, Kutmah releases his second volume for Brownswood “Worldwide Family” series TODAY in the form of a DJ-inspired compilation with a star-studded cast of on the brink electronic artists from Groundislava, Slugabed, Mono/Poly and Lapti to music celebs Hudson Mohawke and Flying Lotus, and early on influences Samiyam and The Darkhorse. So so dope.

Slugabed Sex (Video)
As Slugabed puts it, his latest 12” is the “Soundtrack to your nights of digital pleasure-seeking.” Like a new age update of the Knight Rider theme, or a really really dope Lexus commercial, (I haven’t decided yet) Slugabed brings a funk heavy feel to sexed up computer games to his latest single ‘Sex’. The video for this track is hilarious and combines my love of sex beats and infomercials, so of course I’m all about it. It’s great when artists don’t take themselves too seriously and can fuck around like this too.
The track ‘Sex’ itself is this sweet mix of Chromeo Fancy Footwork vibes, a shitload of 12 year, old 90s era nerds playing Nintendo and PC computer games, plus some serious synth and effects, all piled on top of each other and vaporized. Smooth. Be sure to snag a copy of this release while you can, which includes remixes of the single ‘Sex’ by Daedelus and Groundislava.

I realized I missed a couple supa dupa stars on my Friday 11/11/11 mixtape, so decided to act like an adult with self respect and dignity and post a complete and updated version.This one is fancy and has artwork. And by artwork I mean a picture from the internet that I put text on top of.
Wrap up your week with some tunes to send you into the clouds. Just in time for 11/11/11, when the stars and moon align to form the face of one of musics’ greats. Luckily, this year the smiling face of Elton John appeared, a sign the world is not going to end anytime soon. If Mick Jagger had appeared instead, well, we would all be fucked. So get into the holiday spirit and celebrate the world not ending with this mix.

Final Impasse Take 2

Lil’ sneak peak of what’s to come from electronic producer Groundislava. This is sick, and goes down so smooth. This track is the alternate version of “Final Impasse” off Groundislava’s debut LP, that didn’t make it onto the record. If this is any indication of what the rest of the album will sound like, the world better make room, cuz Groundislava is drilling, and he won’t stop until he’s carved a nice lil’ spot for himself in between 80’s style synthesizers and video game, spaced out electronic beats.
Jasper Patterson aka Groundislava’s previous self-titled release was in heavy rotation all summer, so if you haven’t please give it a spin. This guy is one of the next big names in new wave electronic music, a big part of that is that fact that he throws it down in a very big way during is live show. So crucial, when trying to differentiate yourself from the thrones of solo electronic projects hacking away at new beats from the safety of their bedroom. Oh and he’s best friends with Shlohmo.

Notice how a new artist called “Grounds Saliva”, “Grounds is lava” “Groundislava”…some fucking weird name that no one is ever going to get right (kind of like mine), has been getting a lot of heat as if late?
Well when I first heard Groundislava’s recordings, I was like “Just what we need, another synth reliant, electronic project with an 80’s vibe and bird samples.” That was until I saw his live set last Saturday…
The classic movie Grease comes to mind when describing what the talented Jasper Patterson is all about. “It’s electrifying! “(Andriana), you better shape up, cuz you need Groundislava…better shape up, to my heart I must be true”…you get the point.
In a small cafe (Lot 1) for a crowd of artists, musicians, friends and fans, this guy threw out some of the illest synth-tastic beats Los Angeles has heard in a while. This kid is about to take over the world with his energy-infused take on “lofi” music. Best make sure you’re on his side when it happens.
