Pressed And Fire Shelf
I have had the pleasure of catching two of the Pressed And shows, (Brooklyn and Philly) on their spring tour, and both have been really impressive. I have talked a lot about the live show, and how important it is to me personally, as a music lover, and catching a show like Pressed And’s is a perfect example of why. I was chatting with Matt and Andrew before their show, and all I could do was talk about how impressive a two person indie electronic live act can be, compared to so many projects that sound great in their recordings, but really, need to go back to their bedroom, and sadly, stay there.
Do yourself a favor and don’t miss Pressed And when they come to your city. These guys are exploring mixed media concepts (with the help of the talented Nathaniel Whitcomb’s visuals) and pushing some boundaries that no one else is really doing. Peep their tour dates below and plan accordingly.

FRIDAYS ON QUAALUDES: AN 11/11/11 MIXTAPE UPDATED
I realized I missed a couple supa dupa stars on my Friday 11/11/11 mixtape, so decided to act like an adult with self respect and dignity and post a complete and updated version.This one is fancy and has artwork. And by artwork I mean a picture from the internet that I put text on top of.
Wrap up your week with some tunes to send you into the clouds. Just in time for 11/11/11, when the stars and moon align to form the face of one of musics’ greats. Luckily, this year the smiling face of Elton John appeared, a sign the world is not going to end anytime soon. If Mick Jagger had appeared instead, well, we would all be fucked. So get into the holiday spirit and celebrate the world not ending with this mix.

Pressed And Parties
Teetering on the line of what’s been called “post-dubstep,” and down-tempo ambient, is the latest addition to DIY label, Crash Symbols, Raleigh’s Pressed And. This impressive first offering from Pressed And is a lovely experiment in pitch and beat frequency, with a heavy reliance on synthesizers.
Exploring spatial sound patterns, while doing a deep dive into the unknown are North Carolina’s Andrew Hamlet and Mat Jones. Creating a droning atmospheric landscape using synthesizers and reverbed vocals, with flashes of electronic sounds layered in a way that opens Pressed And’s sound up, instead of weighing it down. A common characteristic of so many of the newer electronic projects popping up all over the net. The use of synthesizers on this EP seems painstakingly meticulous and lends to the albums exploration of a variety of genres from pop-heavy dance, dubstep, down-tempo ambient and beyond. Just fantastic.
The video below for “Parties” is a fascinating compliment to the song, again examining concepts of perception with Land O’ Goshen’s psychadelic version of a double take. He definitely leaves the viewer disatisfied and wanting more. The pensive look on the man’s face in the closing shot says it all.

It is rain in my face. aka Matt Jones might be confused for a Mary Poppins’ line. Regardless, the Brooklyn boy’s music, which does some unique blurring of electronic and sampled sounds, reminds me of those mornings spent lounging in bed, fully awake but not really looking to go anywhere.
At times it’s really lulling and then it will slap you to life with something special like When You Left – a track pitting war chants against persistent smoothed-out vocals. There are lots of layers throughout, dub and soul components that feel fresh and exploratory. I also respect anyone who uses the word, Vittles. In any capacity. Check out his new EP Distal Cues released this June via Denmark Records.
