MIXTAPE MONDAYS! PART TWO w/Tourist’s mix for This Is Fake DIY, the Hyphae III Comp, Prefuse 73’s live set from the American Museum of Natural History (it’s amazing), plus StewRat’s mix for Marinate Media…
So many dope mixtapes have dropped recently, not to mention I just premiered the mixtape for Pink Priest and Cough Cool’s new project Scissoring, so of course today is going to be extra special.
Every mix included today is just spot on with solid electronic, underground hip hop, rap, Bass, and then some jamz from start to finish. A wonderfully curated mixtape is worth it’s weight in gold to me. So instead of talking about them, I have included a stream and tracklist for you to discover the goods on your own. Enjoy!

MIXTAPE MONDAYS: THE SUPER TANDEM UK MIX
Yesterday was the first time I had day terrors in a long time. To give you an idea of what that means, 90% of my day yesterday was spent laying in bed with my eyes shut, not sleeping, just listening to episodes of 30 Rock, along with fits of shakes and sweats. The last episode I watched before finally slipping into a semi-peaceful stupor was the episode where Jenna is obsessed with being young and shows up in shirt that says “Legalish,” mistakes “tandem” for “random” and keeps saying buzz words like “Facebook.” Genius. Well my mixtape picks his week are heavily UK influenced and super random, so in the spirit of 30 Rock, day terrors and everything in between enjoy!
ONANDONANDON by Korallreven for Oki-Ni
The description of this month’s Ok-Ni fashion mix, by one of the most talked about artists of 2011, Korallreven is hilarious and so on point. “The pair have gone for a where-were-you-in-92 rave vibe, as a signal of their possible future direction. Expect acid synths, sharp rave breaks, and a little bit of Baby D’s 1992 chart smash, Let Me Be Your Fantasy.”

Shells Interview and First On Mix #001 for This Is Fake DIY
This Is Fake DIY got the chance to catch up with UK producer Shells and ask everything from his creative process, to why he choose the name Shells, to University, even why he choose the songs he did for this mix. I liked his answer to the last question, he says,
“A lot of these producers have a nostalgic ear for dance music of the past, but there’s a delicacy and attention to detail there that I really love. There’s something really human about these tracks - an appreciation for the value of little imperfections and subtleties that make you aware on some level of the care that went into making them. I tried to make a mix I could imagine enjoying equally at a party, or alone in a bedroom on headphones, listening out for any tiny details I might have missed.”

Hourglass Sea Guest Mix for You’ll Soon Know on NTS Radio
Hourglass Sea was the latest guest on my UK crush Tim Parker’s show You’ll Soon Know on NTS Radio. Tim, and guests, Hourglass Sea and My Panda Shall Fly, put together a cool ass mix of sexy electronic jamz with tunes from Bonobo, Inc., and Rustie, to Gucci Mane, Sert One and Little Dragon. Plus I get to hear my crush chat about in between tracks. It’s always two hours of indie, melt-my-heart with your tunes pleasure. Swoon.
