GITNB’s Guide to SXSBest Weeek Ever 2012 Pt II: Guide to SXSW Guides

I put together a little mixtape of 50 acts I plan on checking out at this year’s fest. Even if you’re not heading to Austin, these are names you should get to know, and hopefully you find some new you dig. Check out the mix HERE.
With so many guides to SXSW out there, how do you decide which list is right for you? You don’t. For part two of my SXSBest Week Ever guide I decided to create a GUIDE TO SXSW GUIDES that includes everything from show listings, free booze, best of Austin eats, and any other list you can think of to make this year’s SX the best week EVER. I will be doing SXSW party coverage + live tweeting from @itsadredogg as well as for the UK blog The 405, so be sure to follow me there! Good luck, enjoy and don’t die.

Dre’s Essentials
Flask
As much as they say all the booze at SX is free, well that’s only half true. Plus how many Sweet Tea Vodka’s can you drink before you feel like puking? Save yourself the energy and your lunch and get saucy on your 20 minute walk to the venue. There are liquor stores conveniently located just about everywhere to ensure you can refuel throughout the day.
B100
This complex vitamin made up of mostly B6, B12, Thiamin and Folic Acid is what celebrities get shots of when they have to perform but are feeling like shit. It’s great for sluggish mornings, sobering you up if you got drunk too quickly, and just feeling on top of your game. These are my lifeline.
GroupMe App for Smartphones
Lost your room key? Can’t find your friends? Just made out with Twin Shadow in a hotel bathroom? There’s free Jameson at the KEXP party? Stay connected with your entire group of friends with this smartphone app. Making memories and staying connected in real time has never been more fun. Shit gets hilarious.
Instagr.am
We love to overshare. Why not do it with #hashtags and photoshop.
Hype Machine Hype Hotel
Great bands. THE schoomze fest to see and be seen at. Party goes till 4am + free booze and Taco Bell that never ends.
Fader Fort
Don’t be that asshole that didn’t RSVP and has to wonder around Austin alone because you think The Fader has gotten too corporate. At the very least the free booze that never runs out is well worth it. Plus your friends are going with or without you.
Map
Austin isn’t that big, but when filled with thousands of festival goers, pop-up tents set up just about everywhere, and events spread out all over the city, it’s easy to get lost and miss your party/show entirely. No matter how direction savvy you are, a map is always a good thing to carry during a festival of this size. Here a few options.

Selva Oscura Sea Crown

If I could envision the music video for Selva Oscura’s latest funked out gumdrop of gooey goodness, it would be set in a theme park, in the middle of a forest. The camera lens used to shoot the careless youth in all their roller coaster glory would be rose tinted and slightly scratched so it picks up only fragments of what you are viewing.

Everyone looks good in beautifully captured instances of light while the rest of the world flutters by them. I want every moment to be like that.

Oh and don’t let this track fool you, much like the carnival rides you loved as a kid, as the song builds momentum, you know the end is near, and all of a sudden, much to your dismay, it’s over. Damn. That was hot…
